What’s this newfangled way of telling a musician you love them by waving a cell phone in the air? Come on. In my day we held up lighters. It’s just not right to use cell phones.
When I expressed my dismay about this during Tom Petty’s halftime show tonight during the Super Bowl and announced I was going to blog about it when I got home, Clare asked me to listen to myself. She compared my blogging (instead of writing in a diary) to using cell phones as torches instead of lighters. And she asked how many people carried lighters anymore anyway. Who knows – they could even be outlawed at stadiums.
She has a point, but I still think it’s sacreligious. And apparently I’m not the only person who thinks this.
