Booted

I was removed from a project last week. Apparently the client had different expectations about my skill level than was the case so they asked to have me replaced.

Of course I was/am upset about this, although I hated the project. It’s the fact that I was not good enough for someone, even though I tried my best to be what they wanted — it was not enough.

The project manager of the project and his supervisor (as well as my supervisor) made sure to let me know that it was not my performance that was in question, so there’s that, but it is still painful to think about.

My self-esteem has plummeted and I second-guess my expertise even more than I did before.

I don’t know how I am going to cope with another two and a half years of this.

  1. This totally sucks. I am so sorry this happened to you. And man, being our age and having this stuff happen is really upsetting—I hope the next project feels good and gets you through to the end!

  2. Thank you both. I feel a lot better now and I have a lot more time to work on all my other projects now. That project, on paper, was supposed to be 25% of my time, but it took up much more. Meetings every morning and most afternoons. Thursdays were shot since we had two hour and a half meetings and another fifteen-minute one in the morning. The last meeting didn’t end until past 5:30 my time.

  3. I’m late to this, but that really sucks. I’m glad you’re feeling better about it. And that your supervisors and project managers etc were all very clear that it wasn’t an issue of performance. You can hold your head high, and thank goodness you’re not involved with the time-sucking project any more!
